The Nineteenth Hole

This is the page for all the news, views and golf gossip of the Pattaya Golf Society and around the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand. Whilst we hope everyone will find something appropriate to their game there may the odd irreverent comment or item and we do not wish to offend anyone in any way.

Locker Room News

All potential golfers are reminded that we only play competition golf and to compete you must have a recognised handicap, preferably a CONGU handicap with IPGC. Guests may play one round before being invited to join IPGC. The only exception is those wishing to complete cards for initial handicapping. In the absence of proof of handicap the player will be expected to compete off "scratch". The full IPGC CONGU handicapping policy is here

We have set up a second website, identical to this one, at http://www.pattayagolfsociety.org which will eventually become our new flagship. Meanwhile we will be running both but in a week's time we shall move entirely to the new site. Please bookmark as usual.

Dates for your Diaries

IPGC is pleased to announce a great new deal with Green Valley which will mean green fees cheaper than any other golf group. As a result we shall be playing the course twice every month for the foreseeable future and applaud the management for the foresight to look after some of its regular customers. If only other courses worked the same way.

The Champagne Moment

Rob Lamond's gross 72 at Phoenix on Tuesday...say no more!

Those Were the Days

Here we feature events in the PGS' history. We go back to the same week in the past to relive some of our golfing stories. Were you there I wonder, in 2003?

Hat-trick for Remy

On Tuesday, 11th February, a fleet of cars delivered the Bunker Boys up the highway to beautiful Bangprakong Riverside for their weekly medal competition. The course is always immaculately turned out and the lush fairways guaranteed perfect lies whilst the fast greens and canny pin placements made for accurate putting. Unbelievably the day was still with the omnipresent breeze only getting up towards the end of the round. It was a day when good scores were inevitable and in division one Bert "Remy" Guy took the honours for the third competition in a row giving him an excellent hat-trick. He caressed and cajoled the ball off the fairways and teased and tickled the ball with unnerving accuracy on the greens. His third sub-par round in succession gave him a score of net 71 and he was followed into the clubhouse by Wilf Latham and Harry Cowling on 72. In division two the scores were incredible with John Preddy and Kevin Sheppard recording 69's to give them only a share of third place. Saranya Chaiyanont's net 66 could only make runner-up as newcomer Beni Walthard, from Switzerland , betrayed his handicap of 35 to post a score of 62! This was either the round of his life or an indication that his alpine handicap had been prepared by the Swiss Navy and an avalanche in the ratings will certainly follow. Remy, Roy Mitchell, Ian Phillips and Brian Wilkinson all shared the Bunker Super Sawng award for their birdie two's and Mike Deverall's high score of the day was rewarded with the notorious Bunker Banana Booby.

This Week's Duffer's Divot goes to...

...Green Valley booking staff

...who accepted our booking for Tuesday three months ago and then changed it to 45 minutes later without telling us. Two days more and they had changed it to two hours earlier, less than 24 hours before the event. How on earth can organisers do their jobs efficiently with morons like this at the sharp edge?

Card of the Week

Rob Lamond shot the nest round of the year on Tuesday at Phoenix when he went 22-20 for a total of 42 stableford points. It was a magnificent effort and one we are dellighted to show here.
